About Us
InfoBook Telephone Directory was started in 1997 and in November of that year the first book "1998 Edition" was out for distribution. Distribution that year was 17,500 copies.
It changed ownership in 1999, when Jackie LaFlamme purchased it with two ladies who also were currently working for Mr. John Dell. Mr. Dell offered the purchase of the business to the three ladies and the decision was an easy ‘yes’. Jackie was buying herself a job, as at that time she was the sole provider for her family, being a single mom. In 2004, two of the partners bought out the third and in 2007 Jackie bought out her partner and runs the business with three employees, until last year when long time employee, Christine McConachie retired after 10 years.
Jackie was born and raised in the Cariboo. Born at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital in 1964 and graduating from Columneetza Secondary School in 1982. Her family has been in the Horsefly/Williams Lake region since 1958 when her dad’s family moved to Horsefly from Meadow Lake Saskatchewan. Her mom’s family immigrated to Horsefly in 1960 from Redding, California. Jackie is a Caribooster through and through, donating back to the Station House Gallery, BCSPCA, local Cadet clubs, Horsefly 4-H, and multiple kids sports groups. She is known by the local Girl Guides as being a definite sale of cookies. In 2009 she shaved her head to raise money for Breast Cancer and the InfoBook donated money by collecting old InfoBook covers, for different local charities including Bags of Love.
Unlike the standard telephone directory, InfoBook is compact, comes in large print, has a postal code section, a separate fax, email, website section. The most popular section would have to be the reverse directory. InfoBook is going into it’s 15th edition this year. InfoBook is a small local home based business that employs 3 people seasonally. The book has grown in the past 15 years from producing 17,500 copies to 32,000 copies yearly. The distribution has grown over the years as well. The complete region the book is received is Clinton - South to Quesnel - North. Horsefly/Likely - East to Bella Coola/Bella Bella - West.
Last year InfoBook Telephone Directory expanded it’s distribution to include Quesnel and area. Now being the only "True Cariboo" telephone directory. InfoBook has also been working on getting it’s website up and running. InfoBook is always looking for feedback on ways to improve their product for the readers and clients. In 2010, a study was conducted by Ver-A-Fast Corporation and the results of the study showed that InfoBook Telephone Directory had 91.8% usage over their competition. Jackie feels that by expanding it’s distribution is a way of giving their clientelle more potential customers for their advertising dollars spent, especially in this economic times. By advertising locally you support local and keep the revenue in the community, keeping us all working and shopping.
